The natural rubber industry is one of the industries that contribute significantly to the national economy. Its contribution to national Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth will reach IDR 69.07 trillion in 2021, up 1.08% compared to the previous year, which amounted to IDR 68.34 trillion.
The Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Airlangga Hartarto, explained that this growth was evident in the rubber industry, especially in the rubber, rubber goods and plastics industrial sectors. The export value from January to September 2022 reached US$ 5124.9 million.
It is known that Airlangga was also present at the inauguration of the Lead Rubber Bearing (LRB) Factory, Bearing, Expansion Joint, and Seismic Isolator Test Facility owned by PT Magdatama Multi Industri (MMI). This company produces Magda LRB, which has met the Domestic Component Level (TKDN) requirements, which are quite high, reaching 78.75%.
Airlangga, through a written statement Monday (30/1), said the factory has a large enough capacity and can meet the needs of the PUPR Ministry for road and bridge bearings. Almost all the raw materials come from within the country, namely steel and rubber, and the products produced also comply with Indonesian National Standard (SNI). He explained that another type of bearing, Magda Pot Bearing, has a TKDN of 57.71%. According to him, these bearings are also helpful for countries prone to earthquakes, such as Indonesia.
For Indonesia, which is prone to earthquakes, explained Airlangga, the bearing factory is essential, and through discussions with the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), it was concluded that these products must be prepared not only for bridges and toll roads but also for buildings.
According to Airlangga, using LRB is mandatory in several countries because it can withstand earthquakes of up to 8 on the Richter scale, and if it is also required in Jakarta or several other areas on Java Island, it will make buildings flexible against disasters.
